SCHOENHALS RE-ELECTED LUTHERAN BISHOP OF ARKANSAS-OKLAHOMA

CHICAGO (ELCA) -- The Rev. Floyd M. Schoenhals, 59, was elected to
a second six-year term as bishop of the Arkansas-Oklahoma Synod of the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) at its assembly April 28-
30 in the Great Plains Coliseum, Lawton, Okla. He received 107 of 126
votes cast on the first ballot April 29. There were 11 other nominees.
Schoenhals was born in Shattuck, Okla. He graduated from
Concordia Senior College, Ft. Wayne, Ind., and Concordia Seminary, St.
Louis. Ordained in 1966, he served as pastor of several congregations
in Louisiana and Oklahoma.
In 1994 Schoenhals succeeded the Rev. Robert H. Studtmann as
bishop.
The Arkansas-Oklahoma Synod is about 16,750 Lutherans in 59 ELCA
congregations across Arkansas and Oklahoma. The synod office is in
Tulsa.
