Title: MOSAIC for Spring ELCA NEWS SERVICE "MOSAIC" FOR SPRING The Spring edition of "Mosaic," the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America#s video magazine, presents stories of congregational renewal in North Dakota, the ELCA's newly adopted social statement on peace, and an innovative project in Mississippi that is giving women and children in poverty hope for the future. "Mosaic" profiles one example of creative rural ministry in a "yoked" parish in eastern North Dakota. Several years ago a group of small ELCA congregations found themselves without a pastor. Faced with declining populations and soaring costs, it appeared these churches were destined to close. Instead, the congregations pooled their resources, teamed with a Presbyterian church and formed an eight-congregation rural cooperative served by four pastors. In August of 1995 voting members at the ELCA's Churchwide Assembly in Minneapolis adopted a social statement calling "For Peace in God's World." "Mosaic" profiles retired United States Army General William Tuttle. Tuttle was a member of the task force and helped to shape the ELCA's peace statement. Lastly, "Mosaic" visits Project Hope in Mississippi and Alabama. Janice Anderson, a single mother of two, pursued training through Project Hope and is now a home health aid. Subscribers use the video magazine in adult forums, youth groups, Bible study groups, new member classes, when visiting shut-ins and for family viewing. The Spring edition is available March 1.
