Peter Rogness, 50, was re-elected to a six-year term as bishop of the Greater Milwaukee Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America on June 1. He received 270 of 318 votes cast May 31 on the first ballot for bishop to win re-election during the synod's annual assembly at Carthage College, Kenosha, Wis. There were 26 other names on that ballot, including the Rev. Kenneth W. Wheeler, assistant to Bishop Rogness, who received ten votes and the Rev. Joseph W. Ellwanger, Cross Lutheran Church, Milwaukee, who received five votes. Rogness was first elected president of the Southern Wisconsin District of the former American Lutheran Church in 1985. He was elected synod bishop when the ELCA was formed in 1988 and was re-elected in 1992. He will not be eligible for re-election when his new term ends in 2002. Rogness has served as pastor of two Milwaukee congregations -- Hephatha Lutheran Church and Wellington Park Lutheran Church. [ELCA News and Information: 8765 W.
