Swan spoke during "A Day of Ecumenical Dialogue" at Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary, Columbus, S.C. Swan is associate director of the Department for Ecumenical Affairs for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. As part of the seminary's John Lewis Yost Jr. Lecture Series, she presented details of three ecumenical proposals the ELCA Churchwide Assembly will vote on when it meets Aug. 14-20 in Philadelphia. The proposals are that the ELCA enter into full communion with The Episcopal Church, enter into full communion with three Reformed churches -- the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), Reformed Church in America and United Church of Christ -- and declare certain 16th century condemnations of the Roman Catholic Church no longer apply. Swan also conversed with a panel of Episcopal, Presbyterian and UCC representatives and with members of the seminary community.
