Dear friends in Christ,
We've just completed a two-day "care for the caregivers" conference for
over 140 Lutheran Disaster Response workers and family members from North
and South Dakota and Minnesota. They were spiritually and physically
refreshed and renewed here in Minneapolis, and were able to step away
temporarily from their on-going response to last year's blizzards and
floods.
One of the prayer petitions at the closing worship service was:
"We pray for all those who suffer from winter's cold and storms of ice
and snow; for those who wait in darkness for the return of light and
heat; for those who are working hard to provide services and care, and
for those who struggle to restore power that all may be kept safe."
On Monday, January 19, two LDR staff workers from the Fargo area - Bob and
Carol Bottchen - will temporarily be relieved of their responsibilities in
North Dakota so they can drive a truck loaded with fifty electrical
generators over 1,500 miles to upstate New York. Not only will they
personally deliver and set up these generators, they will be deployed for a
two-week period to help in the disaster response efforts for the people in
the rural areas who continue to be without electricity as a result of
recent ice storms.
Once again you and I are responding to those in time of need, providing
prayers and presence and resources. Once again the church connects its
heart and its hands, and reaches out to those who suffer, to those in
darkness, so they may experience the warmth of love and the light of
Christ.
Please help the people in rural upstate New York, by your generous prayers,
and your contributions to
