Dear Christian friends,
A few weeks ago record-breaking winds of Typhoon Paka swept over the island
of Guam with gusts as high as 236 miles per hour. Fortunately, no one was
killed, but at least one-quarter of the island's housing was destroyed, and
approximately 800 people are still housed in temporary dormitory structures.
Lutheran Disaster Response is responding to the Guam disaster through the
Lutheran Church of Guam, the island's only Lutheran congregation. The Rev.
Randy Weinkauf, pastor, reports that only three of the congregation's
families have suffered significant damage. Initial financial aid has
already been provided, and Lutheran Disaster Response is making
arrangements for ongoing Lutheran relief efforts to the community of Anigua
through the congregation.
