Robert W. Mattheis, former ELCA bishop and political activist, dies

CHICAGO (ELCA) -- The Rev. Robert W. Mattheis, former Evangelical
Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) synod bishop, retired pastor and
political activist, died July 23 after receiving treatment and hospice
care for bone cancer. Mattheis, 75, died at his home in Lodi, Calif.
