CARLMARK RETIRES

The Rev. Herbert B. Carlmark retired Jan. 31 as assistant executive
director of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's Division for
Ministry. The division provides support for the "rostered
leadership" of the church -- pastors, associates in ministry,
deaconesses and diaconal ministers -- and the ministries of all 5.2
million ELCA members. It coordinates the church's programs of
recruitment, education, approval, support, continuing education and
theological reflection, in partnership with seminaries, continuing
education centers, other churchwide units, synods, pastors and
rostered lay ministers. The Rev. Joseph M. Wagner is executive
director of the ELCA Division for Ministry. The Rev. A. Craig
Settlage became the division's assistant executive director on Feb.
1, leaving his job as ELCA director for candidacy. Madelyn H. Busse
became director for candidacy, to develop and maintain programs to
identify, recruit, prepare and evaluate candidates for rostered
ministries in the ELCA. She had been ELCA director for rostered lay
ministries. The Division for Ministry has begun a search process to
hire one person as associate director for candidacy and director for
specialized pastoral care ministries.
