BETHANY COLLEGE NAMES NEW PRESIDENT

The Rev. Christopher M. Thomforde has been selected as the 11th
president of Bethany College, Lindsborg, Kan.  He will assume
office July 1.  Thomforde has been chaplain to Susquehanna
University, Selinsgrove, Pa., since 1986.  Bethany and
Susquehanna are two of the 28 colleges associated with the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.  Thomforde received a
history degree from Princeton University, Princeton, N.J., in
1969.  After two years of teaching at Tunghai University,
Taichung, Taiwan, he returned to the United States and earned a
master of divinity degree from Yale University, New Haven, Conn.
He is a doctor of ministry program degree candidate at Princeton.
Thomforde served as pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, New
York, from 1978-1986.  Thomforde said he hopes to serve Bethany
College "in a way that the present community will be as active
and creative as possible and so that those coming in the future
will also come to love it as well."  He is married to Christina
Thomforde.  They are the parents of four children.
