Synod Title: Eitrheim Appointed Interim Bishop in ELCA No. Carolina Synod ELCA NEWS SERVICE NEWSBRIEF July 30, 1996 EITRHEIM INTERIM BISHOP The Rev. Norman D. Eitrheim, retired bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's South Dakota Synod, has been appointed interim bishop of the North Carolina Synod, effective immediately. Mark W. Menees resigned May 25 as the synod's bishop and as an ELCA pastor following allegations against him of sexual misconduct. Eitrheim will serve in this position until a new North Carolina Synod bishop takes office. The synod is scheduled to elect a new bishop on Nov. 2 and that person will take office on Feb. 2.
