Title: Women of the ELCA Elects Officers ELCA NEWS SERVICE July 13, 1996 WOMEN OF THE ELCA ELECTS OFFICERS 96-WO-12-LC CHICAGO (ELCA) -- Mary G. Seale was elected vice president, Donna L. Haack secretary, and Nancy A. Hoffman treasurer of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America July 12 at the organization's Third Triennial Convention. The convention meets here July 11-14 under the theme, "Proclaim God's Peace." Seale, Roosevelt, N.Y., is president of the Metro New York Synodical Women's Organization and serves on the board of directors of Our Sister's Place. On the first ballot Seale was the fifth highest vote-getter with eight votes. Merle Frieji, Mayville, N.D., received the most votes on that ballot with 167. Others on that ballot were: Faith A. Ashton, Chapel Hill, N.C.; Georganne Robertson, Olympia, Wash.; and Jan Zook, Bowbells, N.D. On the fourth ballot Seale received 300 votes to Frieji's 164. Haack, Pomeroy, Iowa, was elected secretary on the third ballot with 286 votes. Dolores R. Posey, Hollister, Calif., had 181 votes. Haack, nominated from the floor, is secretary of the Northern Illinois Synod Women's Organization. Hoffman, Lancaster, Ohio, was elected Women of the ELCA treasurer on the second ballot with 270 votes to LaVaun Danielson's 207 votes. Danielson, who was nominated from the floor, is from Franklin, Minn. Hoffman is treasurer of Southern Ohio Synod Women's Organization. On July 11 the convention elected Sharroll A. Bernahl, Fort Morgan, Colo., president. Seventeen of 21 members of the 1996-99 Executive Board will be elected July 13.
