Title: ELCA Rural Ministry Conference ELCA NEWS SERVICE - NEWSBRIEF March 12, 1997 RURAL MINISTRY TAKES TEAMWORK The importance of clergy and laity working together in rural congregations was the theme of the 1997 Rural Ministry Conference held March 2-4 in Dubuque, Iowa. Wartburg Theological Seminary and the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary sponsored "Ministry Together: New Models for Laity and Clergy" through the Center for Theology and Land. Wartburg is one of the eight seminaries of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Helen Harms, coordinator of the ELCA's Small Town and Rural (STaR) team, was one of the main presenters. The Rev. Sarah Henrich, assistant professor of New Testament, Luther Seminary, St. Paul, Minn., provided the Bible study. "GIFTS: Growing in Faith to Serve" was a workshop for ELCA participants. The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), United Methodist Church, and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and United Church of Christ hosted workshops too.
