Title: AUGSBURG FORTRESS AND GARY AAMODT ELCA NEWS SERVICE - NEWSBRIEF June 12, 1997 AUGSBURG FORTRESS AND GARY AAMODT The Rev. Marvin L. Roloff, president and CEO of Augsburg Fortress Publishers, Minneapolis, announced May 19 that the parties to a matter of litigation have agreed to settle their disputes. The litigation was initiated by Gary Aamodt, former president and CEO of Augsburg Fortress, publishing house of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The terms of the settlement, negotiated under the auspices of Hennepin County District Judge Myron Greenberg, are to remain confidential, according to Roloff. Aamodt claimed that Augsburg Fortress breached its employment agreement with him by asking him to resign following an inquiry into certain compensation benefits paid to him without authorization. The Rev. David L. Tiede, former chair of the board and president of Luther Seminary, St. Paul, Minn., was also named in that suit. Augsburg Fortress contested Aamodt's claims and sought money damages from Aamodt on the grounds that the disputed compensation benefits were improper. Roloff's statement said, "The settlement puts to rest all issues related to these disputes and allows the publishing house board and staff to devote their undivided energies into fulfilling the publishing house's mission to serve the church."
