Title: Augustana College Earns National Award ELCA NEWS SERVICE April 9, 1998 AUGUSTANA COLLEGE EARNS NATIONAL AWARD 98-13-082-MR CHICAGO (ELCA) -- Augustana College, Rock Island, Ill., is one of three schools in the United States to receive the Multicultural Program Award from the National Association for Campus Activities. Augustana, a college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, was honored for "Diversity: A Fall Celebration," a series of programs offered last fall by the school's College Union Board of Managers. The series included performances by an African American theater troupe and Latin vocalist Irene Farrera, as well as an interactive lecture presented by television journalist Charles Perez and a video series presented at Augustana's Black Culture House. The award was established to encourage and promote the development of programs and services on cultural diversity and awareness. The association recognizes and honors innovative and outstanding programs in higher education. Last year Augustana received the association's Excellence in Programming and Distinguished Student Development awards.
