'MOSAIC' SPRING 2000 EDITION FOCUSES ON ELDER CARE
00-029-JB
CHICAGO (ELCA) -- The spring 2000 edition of MOSAIC, the video
magazine of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), focuses
specifically on elder care and includes segments on the "sandwich"
generation, care options and planning. The spring edition will be
available March 1, and includes these stories:
+ "The Sandwich Generation: In-Between Care Givers": This segment
focuses on Americans who must provide care for aging relatives as well
as their own children. MOSAIC visited two sandwich-generation families
in Nebraska, plus representatives of a Missouri social service agency, a
Pennsylvania congregation and the director of the ELCA's Age Span
Ministries.
+ "Three Options": With the help of Lutheran Services in America,
MOSAIC looks at three options for elder care including home health and
respite care for those in their homes, and long-term care outside the
home. Featured are an occupational therapist and a family who adapted
their home for respite care. The segment also includes an Illinois
ecumenical center that provides daily support services for elderly
people and respite for primary caregivers, plus a Minnesota continuing-care
retirement community in partnership with 32 ELCA congregations.
+ "It's Time to Talk": In this segment, MOSAIC explores planning
for elder care. The segment includes a visit to a health care agency and
a visit to a congregation that includes a "congregational health
advocate" on staff. Also featured is a United Church of Christ
institution that provides regular public elder-care preparation
seminars.
MOSAIC is produced by the ELCA Department for Communication. It
is intended for educational use in a variety of congregational settings
including Sunday School classes, adult forums, youth groups, women's and
men's groups, new member classes, church council meetings, committee
meetings and other organizational meetings. Each issue includes a
user's guide, with a synopsis of each segment and discussion questions.
MOSAIC is issued quarterly. Annual subscriptions are available
through the ELCA Department for Communication.
