ELCA COUNCIL ELECTS BOARD AND COMMITTEE MEMBERS

CHICAGO (ELCA) -- The Church Council of the Evangelical Lutheran
Church in America (ELCA) elected clergy and lay individuals to fill
vacancies on boards, steering and advisory committees of the church.
The Church Council is the ELCA's board of directors and serves as
the legislative authority of the church between its churchwide
assemblies. The council met here April 6-7. Assemblies are held every
other year; the next is Aug. 8-14 in Indianapolis.
The council elects clergy and lay individuals to fill unexpired
terms on boards, steering committees and certain advisory committees of
the ELCA. It also affirms certain positions recommended by commissions.
The council elected:
+ the Rev. Barbara Berry-Bailey, Trinity Lutheran Church,
Philadelphia, to The Lutheran -- the magazine of the ELCA -- advisory
committee;
+ Jacqueline DeLaat, St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Marietta, Ohio,
to the Commission for Women steering committee;
+ Christine Holler-Dinsmore, Bethel Lutheran Church, Nashua,
Mont., to the Commission for Multicultural Ministries steering
committee;
+James D. Lynch, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Denver, to the
Commission for Women steering committee;
+ Agnes S. McClain, Angelica Lutheran Church, Los Angeles, to the
ELCA Commission for Women steering committee;
+ the Rev. Jose David Rodriguez Jr., Iglesia Luterana Trinidad,
Chicago, to the ELCA Commission for Multicultural Ministries steering
committee;
+ the Rev. Jack Russell, Great Spirit Lutheran Church, Milwaukee,
to the Commission for Multicultural Ministries steering committee;
+ Nancy J. Stelling, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Raleigh, N.C.,
to The Lutheran advisory committee;
+ the Rev. John R. Spangler Jr., Christ the King Lutheran Church,
Gettysburg, Pa., to The Lutheran advisory committee;
+ Kimberly A. Vaughn, St. James Lutheran Church, East Cleveland,
Ohio, to the ELCA Division for Congregational Ministries board.
The council ratified nominations from the five ethnic associations
of the ELCA to the Commission for Multicultural Ministries steering
committee:
+ Maxine L. Amos, St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Lumberton, N.C.,
American Indian and Alaska Native Lutheran Association member;
+ the Rev. James K. Echols, St. Michael's Lutheran Church,
Philadelphia, African American Lutheran Association member;
+ Grace G. El-Yateem, Salam Arabic Lutheran Church, Brooklyn,
N.Y., Association of Lutherans of Arab and Middle Eastern Heritage
member;
+ the Rev. Khader N. El-Yateem, Salam Arabic Lutheran Church,
Brooklyn, N.Y., Association of Lutherans of Arab and Middle Eastern
Heritage member;
+ the Rev. James Y. K. Moy, University Lutheran Church, Seattle,
Association of Asian and Pacific Islanders member;
+ Fuad B. Nijim, Grace Lutheran Church, Palo Alto, Calif.,
Association of Lutherans of Arab and Middle Eastern Heritage member;
+ Daniel N. Solee, Abiding Savior Lutheran Church, Columbia, Md.,
African America Lutheran Association member;
+ Muna Tarazi, Lutheran Church of the Master, Troy, Mich.,
Association of Lutherans of Arab and Middle Eastern Heritage member;
+ Saitong Urramporn, Thai Community Church of Chicago, Forest
Park, Ill., Association of Asian and Pacific Islanders member;
+ Denise E. Vazquez-Ortiz, Iglesia Luterana Getsemani, Dorado,
Puerto Rico, Hispanic/Latino Lutheran Association member.
The council affirmed the nomination of Victor M. Guzman, Christ
Lutheran Church, Charlotte, N.C., to the board of trustees of the ELCA
Mission Investment Fund. The nomination came from the ELCA Division for
Outreach board.
