PROTESTANT HOUR CHANGES NAME, FORMAT

CHICAGO (ELCA) -- "The Protestant Hour," an award-winning
ecumenical radio program, is getting a new name and format. The
Atlanta-based radio ministry is adding a shortened television
version, and both formats will be called "Day 1."
The Protestant Hour underwent changes in an effort to reach a
wider audience and build a stronger multimedia presence, said Peter
Wallace, president and executive director of The Protestant Hour,
Inc.
The Day 1 television program will air Sunday at 10 a.m. ET/PT
as a segment of the Hallmark Channel's "America at Worship," produced
by Faith and Values Media. America at Worship will be a mix of
preaching, music and worship from congregations and ministries across
the nation. The first show is scheduled to air July 7.
"Day 1 will bring an exciting new source of high-quality
preaching and discussion to America at Worship," said Edward J.
Murray, president and corporate executive officer of Faith and Values
Media. "Partnership with the Day 1 producers ensures that Faith and
Values Media's Sunday worship presence will bring viewers the richest
variety of inspiration, prayer, and preaching to be found anywhere on
Sunday morning television."
The 57-year-old radio program welcomed a fifth denomination
into the production partnership this year. The United Church of
Christ has joined the Episcopal Media Center, Evangelical Lutheran
Church in America (ELCA), Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and United
Methodist Church, longtime producers of the radio ministry.
The half-hour radio show -- with the name Day 1 -- will
continue to air Sunday mornings on 150 radio stations across the
nation and at www.day1.net via streaming audio.
This year, two ELCA pastors have been featured on The
Protestant Hour. The Rev. Barbara K. Lundblad, associate professor of
preaching at Union Theological Seminary, New York, preached in
programs in the first quarter, and the Rev. Ronald T. Glusenkamp,
vice president for customer outreach, ELCA Board of Pensions,
Minneapolis was featured this spring. Later this year, the Rev.
Ramona Soto Rank, Augustana Lutheran Church, Portland, Ore., and the
Rev. Roy T. Lloyd, senior manager of media relations and
organizational marketing, American Bible Society, New York, will be
featured.
