ELCA Council Elects Leaders to Fill Council, Committee Vacancies

CHICAGO (ELCA) -- The Church Council of the Evangelical
Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) elected leaders to fill
vacancies on the Church Council, the churchwide Committee on
Appeals, a program committee and an advisory committee of the
church. It also transmitted a slate of nominees for the 2007
ELCA Churchwide Assembly to consider for election.
The Church Council is the ELCA's board of directors and
serves as the legislative authority of the church between
churchwide assemblies. The council met here April 14-16.
Assemblies are held every other year; the next is here Aug. 6-11.
The Rev. David P. Anderson, St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran
Church, Strongsville, Ohio, was elected to serve on the Church
Council. Anderson replaces the Rev. Elizabeth A. Eaton, Cuyahoga
Falls, who resigned. Eaton was elected bishop of the ELCA
Northeastern Ohio Synod, Cuyahoga, on Dec. 4, 2006.
The Rev. A. Donald Main, bishop of the ELCA Upper
Susquehanna Synod, Lewisburg, Pa., was elected to serve on the
churchwide Committee on Appeals. The Rev. Jesse D. Hill, Living
Saviour Lutheran Church, Charlotte, N.C., was elected to fill a
vacancy on the program committee for ELCA Multicultural
Ministries.
The Rev. Harold W. Eppley, Lincoln Park Lutheran Church,
Milwaukee; Frank Ramos, communication consultant, Guaynabo,
Puerto Rico; and Rick White, publisher, Advance Publications of
Perry and Juniata Counties, Leck Kill, Pa., were elected to fill
vacancies on the advisory committee for The Lutheran, the
magazine of the ELCA.
The council transmitted to the 2007 ELCA Churchwide Assembly
a slate of nominees to serve on the churchwide Nominating
Committee.
