ELCA Pastor to Preach on Ecumenical Radio Program
09-177-CD*
CHICAGO (ELCA) -- The Rev. David von Schlichten, a pastor of the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), will deliver a sermon Aug.
16 on the nationally broadcast radio program "Day 1."
Von Schlichten, pastor of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church,
Youngstown, Pa., will talk about the comparison of wisdom and foolishness
in Proverbs 9 in his sermon, "The Woman Less Listened To." Proverbs 9
speaks of wisdom as a "she."
"Woman wisdom is the wisdom of God," he said of the biblical
text. "(She) teaches us mortals about God, instructs us on our place in
the universe, a place of honor mixed with humility beneath the Almighty."
"Day 1" is a weekly radio show hosted by Peter Wallace. The program
has been on the air for 64 years and is distributed to 200 radio stations
across the United States and overseas. The Alliance for Christian Media
produces the show in association with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship,
Episcopal Church, ELCA, Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), United Church of
Christ and United Methodist Church.
Von Schlichten teaches at St. Vincent College, Latrobe, Pa., and
Seton Hill University, Greensburg, Pa., and works as a freelance writer,
columnist, editor and moderator of the Lectionary Homiletics blog at
http://www.goodpreacher.com on the Web. He is the author of the
book, "Words Fitly Spoken: Biblical Guidance for More Powerful Preaching."
