ELCA Seminary Professor, Pastor to Preach on Ecumenical Radio Show
09-181-CD*
CHICAGO (ELCA) -- The Rev. David J. Lose, a pastor of the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and professor at Luther
Seminary, St. Paul, Minn., will preach Aug. 23 and Sept. 13 on "Day 1," a
nationally broadcast radio program.
Lose serves as the Marbury E. Anderson Chair in Biblical Preaching
at Luther Seminary, where he joined the faculty in 2000. Luther Seminary
is one of eight ELCA seminaries.
On Aug. 23 Lose will explore John 6:59-69, a teaching of Jesus that
caused some of his disciples to turn away from him.
"While the picture St. John draws for us is not a pretty one, it's
probably a pretty realistic portrait of disbelief, of disciples then and
now for whom the life of faith has become too hard," Lose said. "But at
the same time, St. John's picture is also one of belief, courage and
faith."
Lose's Sept. 13 sermon covers the conversation Peter had with Jesus
concerning his identity as Messiah in Mark 8: 27-38.
"Peter's heart breaks in today's reading because he doesn't get the
God he wants," Lose said. "It breaks again at the end of the story when
he realizes that instead of getting the God he wants, he gets the God he
needs."
"Day 1" is a weekly radio show hosted by Peter Wallace. The
program has been on the air for 64 years and is distributed to 200 radio
stations across the United States and overseas. The Alliance for
Christian Media produces the show in association with the ELCA, the
Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, the Episcopal Church, the Presbyterian
Church (U.S.A.), the United Church of Christ and the United Methodist
Church.
