1998 LUTHERAN SUMMER MUSIC PROGRAM TO OPEN

CHICAGO (ELCA) -- Augustana College, Sioux Falls, S.D., will host the
1998 Lutheran Summer Music program June 21 to July 19. Augustana is one of
28 colleges and universities of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America
(ELCA).
Lutheran Summer Music was first held in the summer of 1982 on the
campus of St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minn. Since then it has been held
on seven different Lutheran college or university campus every summer.
This is the fifth summer that the program has been on Augustana's campus.
"Augustana College has been an exceptionally welcoming host in the
past," said Victor E. Gebauer, executive director of Lutheran Music
Program. "We are pleased to share Augustana's commitment to excellence in
the arts."
The curriculum includes band, orchestra and choir; musicianship and
music history classes; optional ensembles of handbells, jazz band,
historical instruments and chapel choir; enrichment courses in art, theater
and dance; and lessons with faculty artists in the students' primary and
secondary instruments.
Rickey Andrews, James Johnson, Scott Johnson and Anna Vorhes are
Augustana faculty members participating in the program. Other musicians
serving as faculty artists in 1998 are Michael Acord, Jeff Doebler, S.
Blake Duncan, Allen French, Paul Morton, David Neely, Clark Poffer, James
Ramlet, Kevin Wass and Karen Wilkerson.
The public is invited to more than 50 concerts and recitals during
the four-week program at Augustana.
