TWO ELCA GLOBAL MISSION EVENTS CHANGE LOCATIONS
99-05-25-FI
CHICAGO (ELCA) -- Planned locations for two of three Global Mission
Events for 1999 have changed since initially announced. The Division for
Global Mission of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA)
sponsors the events each year.
"Walking Together into the Next Century" is the theme for the 1999
Global Mission Events.
The first event was to be held at the University of Evansville in
Evansville, Ind., July 15-18. It will be held at Purdue University in
West Lafayette, Ind.
The second was to be held at the Grenelefe Gold and Tennis Resort
near Orlando, Fla. It will be held at the Marriott World Center in
Orlando. Instead of beginning on July 22, it will begin on July 23 and
continue through July 25.
"These changes are due to the recent notifications we received from
the initial facilities that they could not have us on the dates we had
negotiated," said the Rev. Margarita Martinez, ELCA associate director
for global events.
Plans for the third event, July 29-Aug. 1 at the University of
Nebraska in Lincoln, Neb., are unchanged.
Speakers for the events will include the Rev. David M. Beckmann, a
pastor of the ELCA and president of Bread for the World; the Rev. Ruben
Duran, executive for congregational outreach services in the ELCA Division
for Outreach; Pauline Nygard of Minot, N.D., who grew up as a "missionary
kid" in Senegal in western Africa; and Mercy Oduyoye of the Institute of
Women in Religion and Culture, Trinity Theological College, Accra, Ghana.
A variety of courses are offered in several "global university"
sessions. Cultures of the world are experienced through worship and food.
