Title: CAIN HOPE FELDER ADDRESSED WRITERS
WORKSHOP

CAIN HOPE FELDER ADDRESSED WRITERS
WORKSHOP

Dr. Cain Hope Felder, professor of New
Testament at Howard University School of
Divinity, Washington, D.C. was the keynote
speaker for Evangelical Lutheran Church in
America's Multicultural Writers Workshop
Feb. 14-18 in Chicago. The workshop is
designed to introduce experienced writers
to the range of writing opportunities for
ELCA publications and resources, and to make
the writers better known to editors and ELCA
churchwide units, including Augsburg
Fortress Publishers. The five-day event
gave participants an opportunity to identify
audiences and sharpen interviewing skills.
The workshop also provided tips on editing
copy and specific writing techniques.
Review groups from the ELCA's African
American, Native American, Asian and
Hispanic communities each selected three
writers to attend the workshop. During his
address Felder told stories of his
experiences as they relate to being a
theological scholar and author. He told
the group, "People of color must tell the
story and work toward the integrity of the
truth." Felder is the general editor of the
"African Heritage Study Bible," author of
several books and founder of the Biblical
Institute for Social Change -- an
organization encouraging the church to be
relevant to the needs of people in urban and
multicultural settings. The workshop is
sponsored by Augsburg Fortress Publishers,
the ELCA's Commission for Multicultural
Ministries, Department for Communication,
Division for Congregational Ministries, "The
Lutheran" magazine and Women of the ELCA.
