ARCHBISHOP OF SWEDEN TO VISIT

Archbishop Gunnar Weman of The Church of Sweden will pay a formal
visit to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America May 10-20,
which will include time with ELCA Bishop H. George Anderson.  The
archbishop#s trip will recognize the 150th anniversary of Swedish
migration to North America.  Weman will be accompanied by his
wife, Barbro; Klas Hansson, director for the archbishop#s office;
and the Rev. Johan Dalman, secretary for theology.  He will tour
churchwide offices in Chicago and speak with the staff.  Weman
will travel to sites of 19th century Swedish settlements such as
Andover and Bishop Hill, Ill., and New Sweden, Iowa.  He will
visit Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill., which was founded
in 1860 as America#s first Scandinavian college, and the Lutheran
School of Theology at Chicago.  The archbishop will travel to
Minnesota to visit Swedish heritage congregations there and to
tour the campus of Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn.
Weman will also meet with members of several Swedish-American
organizations during his U.S. visit.
