To: [log in to unmask] Dear Christian Friends, I'm writing this quick report from the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, where even now new rainstorms are causing flooding in Denver and low-lying communities. Lutheran Disaster Response is coordinating relief efforts in Fort Collins and in Sterling, Colorado, following devastating torrential rainstorms that caused severe flooding last week. At a meeting today of a local Lutheran strategy team, LDR of Colorado named Gene Thiemann of Fort Collins to serve as local coordinator to oversee the relief efforts. Partners in this strategy team include AAL, LB, LFS of Colorado, a pastor of the Rocky Mountain Synod (ELCA), and a pastor of the Rocky Mountain District (LCMS). Relief operations are being managed for LDR by Lutheran Family Services of Colorado, Chet Evenson president. As damage assessment continues and the local relief operation is set up, initial financial assistance has already begun. As soon as specific needs are identified and an office is established for Gene Thiemann, I will provide details in this meeting. Meanwhile, your prayers for the survivors of this latest disaster -- many who have lost their homes and possessions -- will be meaningful and helpful. Your contributions to help in this new disaster relief effort may be sent to: ELCA Domestic Disaster Response PO Box 71764 Chicago, IL 60694-1764 Thanks for your continuing assistance in disaster ministries.
