Here is a summary of ELCA Domestic Disaster's response to recent storms in
Georgia, Alabama and Central Florida. The ELCA responds in a cooperative
ministry with the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, through "Lutheran
Disaster Response".

Lutheran response efforts following flooding in ALBANY,GEORGIA, are being
managed by Lutheran Ministries of Georgia, the Rev. Gary Danielson,
president. Initial assessments have been underway now for several days.
Ms. Susan Keefer, who headed relief efforts in Albany's 1994 flooding, will
be in Albany to complete needs assessment and arrange Lutheran
participation in cleanup. Lutheran Ministries of Georgia reports that
cleanup will be done earlier than expected, and that volunteers beyond the
Georgia area will probably not be needed. Lutherans continue to offer
small emergency grants, and will also participate in addressing long term
needs through a local interfaith organization. Lutheran Disaster Response
has provided an initial grant of $7,000.

In ALABAMA a small number of volunteers are assisting in cleanup through
Lutheran Social Services of Alabama. Lutheran Disaster Response has
provided emergency supplies.

In FLORIDA Lutherans remain actively involved in the devastated Kissimmee
area, and are participating fully in the interfaith effort active in
Sanford and Winter Garden. An initial grant of $17,000 has been provided.
Ms. Judith Bunker of Lutheran Servicesof Florida is directing the effort,
and will be assisted by a site coordinator within the next few days.
